Where is our money going?

The War on Terror a good thing or a bad thing? A good thing for sure. Is this something that America should pay to fight, yes or no? Yes. Should we pay for it today, or mortgage our future, and let our descendants pay for it? We should pay for it today (but that is a whole other discussion topic).

Ok, presuming we all agree we must pay for National Security (Homeland Security), then should we expect a good accounting of how the money is spent, and that balanced decisions are made to ensure the money is spent wisely inside our borders, and abroad (Iraq, Afghanistan), yes or no? Yes, I'm sure we would all agree.

Let's start with Homeland Security. The funding was approved after 9-11. Given the grave threat to our Nation we would hope the money would be primarily directed to our greatest areas of risk, ie, our borders, and our international airports. Logically all states should receive funds, but we should direct funds in proportion to our risk levels. Agree or disagree? I expect you would agree. Guess what? Congress failed us. They took a peanut butter approach. Congress knowingly passed out funds via this fashion to get Pork for States that didn't need as much money at the detriment of States that needed more, and as a result, impeded our Nations ability to defend itself. The White House, and the Homeland Security appointee have been silent on this. We have a failure of leadership.

I'll address funding abroad next, but that will have to be on a continuing post as I'm headed off to work.

We lack leaders, because leaders know you have to make tough choices, and with tough choices, you have to expect pushback from the public. Closing the borders will have an impact on prices in our country. All we have to do it get the people off of welfare to fill the jobs, the hispanics have been happy to fill.

Too many Americans believe certain jobs are beneath them. When I was growing up, I'd do just about anything for a buck. I learned quickly that there were some things I never wanted to do again, but when you need money, you take what you can get.

Leadership means explaining to the public you can't get something for nothing, it requires sacrifice. A Senator in Ohio not lobbying for Homeland $$ is making a sacrifice for the good of the Nation.

RC. Your view on illegal immigration is an extreme oversimplication. The honest view of Republicans is that Business likes cheap and available labor, it has nothing to do with not wanting to appear to be racist. Dem's always have targeted the perceived "down and out" portion of the population.

RC. Don't buy it, too simplified. The sole reason the Republicans don't want to do anything is because they are afraid of being viewed as racist?

Republicans are business men. It has all to do with economic factors.

The Republicans don't seem to be concerned about being labeled as racist when it comes to affirmative action or the PATRIOT Act. Why would they care about that when it comes to illegal immigration when illegal immigrants do not have the right to vote?
