Apology

Sorry to the readers that swing by, but this deficit spending has to STOP. Enough is enough.

Cut up the credit cards. Create a revenue stream that pay's for what we spend and start paying off the deficit.

Entitlements. Two things, spend money smarter, and we have to slow entitlement growth in total dollars.

End these sweatheart deals with the Fat Cats. End all forms of Welfare.

Spread the word "RED IS DEAD!!!"

I could not agree more. I have a post you might like. US in Default

In a shocking development, the Treasury Department website is openly stating that as of January 24th 2006 our national debt stood at $8,185.3 billion.

[update - 02/07/2006 - $8,201.6 Billion]

Yet the US national debt 'ceiling' stands at $8,184 billion

They don't bother hiding it anymore because few are paying attention.

They don't bother hiding it anymore, because their pundits have become so good at spinning ay bad fact into a promise of riches. Spying on citizens - national security. $8B debt - a robust economy. Polluting the skies - Clear Air Act.

I have no problem with welfare, in theory. Some people need help for a while, and I'm willing to give them that help.

But...

I've always thought that if you get welfare, food stamps, any form of assistance, then you should be doing the government a service in return. You get welfare? Great. It's your turn to clean the ditches or mow the courthouse lawn... Or paint over the $#*%(@& graffiti in my neighborhood.

Regarding deficit spending - they don't let me do it, so why should I let them? If I don't pay my bills, I get in trouble. Simple as that.

Chris, I agree for your take on Welfare, ie, you don't get sumptin' for nuttin'. Doing a public service for your paycheck sounds damn good.

I agree that we need to stop rampant deficit spending, but "entitlements" (as commonly understood) are not necessarily the problem here.

How about the entitlement to pay no taxes because we have a P.O. Box in the Caymans? How about the entitlement to massive profits subsidized by the government? How about the entitlement to a lower effective tax rate because we are wealthy?

We also need to realize that there are two sides to the government balance sheet: revenue and expenditures. If the expenditures are actually making this nation stronger and improving the lives of Americans, then raise the revenue to cover them. If the expenditures are being wasted on programs that weaken our economy and make life more difficult the average American, then cut the expenses.
